National Homemade Soup Day

There's nothing like a nice bowl of soup on a cold, dark day! It'll warm you right up from the inside, give you a boost of energy, and the colourful ingredients will brighten up your winter days.

Our favourite: tomato soup with a side of garlic bread! It's not really seasonal, but you can use canned tomatoes as well if you like! 😊

The three main ingredients: butter, a large onion and tomatoes (2 cans of tomatoes, or if you have fresh tomatoes, you'll need about 10 to 12 medium tomatoes).

1) Cut the onion into larger slices and sauté in butter. If you like, you can add spices such as oregano, thyme or kurkuma, or you can use stock or vegetable broth. Use salt and pepper and spice it up as much as you like.

2) Add a little water and simmer with the tinned (or chopped) tomatoes for about 30 minutes.

Do not forget to stir from time to time.

3) Add some butter at the end to make it extra creamy.

4) Blend.

—> For the garlic bread - butter the bread, add the fresh garlic, spread it on top and bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 10 minutes. It will be super crispy. 😊

5) Grab a bowl and enjoy! Why not invite some people over to share a nice bowl of soup?

"The Panther" (subtitled: "In Jardin des Plantes, Paris") by Rainer Maria Rilke written between 1902 and 1903 — English translation by Stanley Appelbaum

His gaze against the sweeping of the bars
has grown so weary, it can hold no more.
To him, there seem to be a thousand bars
and back behind those thousand bars no world.

The soft the supple step and sturdy pace,
that in the smallest of all circles turns,
moves like a dance of strength around a core
in which a mighty will is standing stunned.

Only at times the pupil’s curtain slides
up soundlessly — . An image enters then,
goes through the tensioned stillness of the limbs —
and in the heart ceases to be.

Every year, the male waits at the nest for his mate. If she's died or simply returned to the nest too late, the other one looks for a new mate. If the late partner does turn up, the new partner is often chased away and the old pair brood together.
