SALT | Speech and Language Therapy

SALT encompasses a broad range of areas of expertise. Our service at Freo Well-being supports both adults and children with a range of communication, neurodiversity, and dysphagia (eating, drinking, and swallowing) issues. SALT also provides training courses, Social Communication Groups and Drop in sessions.

How does it work?

 

Below is a list of some communication disorders and difficulties for you to look through. Don’t worry if your particular problem is not on the list. We are very happy to discuss it with you if you are not sure.

You will have a free 15-minute consultation before your initial assessment.

Pricing

The unit price for Speech and Language Therapy is £100 per hour as standard.
Discounts may be available, please contact us to discuss at: clientreception@freowellbeing.com.

Prices refer to online sessions. We may consider Face to face visits in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on a case-by-case basis, subject to our risk and safety assessments. If agreed, we will quote a flat fee for travelling expenses.

What can the Speech and Language Therapy Service help you with?

Communication Difficulties:

  • Communication difficulties relating to genetic conditions or syndromes such as

  • Learning Disability, Down Syndrome

  • Cerebral Palsy or Fragile X syndrome.

  • Stuttering/ stammering

  • Selective Mutism, commonly experienced in childhood or adolescence

  • Communication problems following a stroke, such as word finding difficulties

  • Communication issues which have developed as a result of neurological conditions, such as Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis,

  • Parkinson’s Disease, or Huntington’s Disease

Neurodiversity: Autism and ADHD

  • Social Communication difficulties related to neurodiversity; difficulties in making friends or interacting with others

  • Non-verbal communication difficulties, such as using and understanding gestures and facial expressions

Dysphagia: eating drinking and swallowing problems

  • Dysphagia related to underlying genetic conditions such as Learning Disability, Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy

  • Dysphagia following a stroke

  • Dysphagia related to neurological conditions such as Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, or Huntington’s Disease


What does Speech and Language Therapy Support look like?

Communication:

We will always start with an Initial Assessment before making recommendations for:

Therapy, Consultation, Training, Groups, Drop-in Sessions or Further Referrals

Therapy and Treatment Plans:

  • Individual Therapy Sessions and blocks of therapy

  • Communication programmes and guidelines – for people who may not be able to engage with therapy, for example, Learning Disability and Challenging Behaviour.

  • Social Communication Groups, Drop-in Sessions and Training Courses-details on the training page

  • Consultation – offering advice and strategies to trial

  • Reports tailored to your requirements including Medico-Legal Reports

  • Mental Capacity Assessments

Dysphagia – eating drinking and swallowing difficulties

We will always start with a telephone screen followed by:

Assessment, Advice, Management, Guidelines, GP letter and Reports

  • Personalised service for adults and children

  • SALT will always send copies of reports and guidelines to you GP

Neurodiversity:

  • Neurodiversity Diagnosis – provided jointly with Psychiatry (please see details on the Freo Wellbeing Neurodiversity page for Autism and ADHD diagnosis service)

  • Neurodiversity Assessments – for people with Autism or ADHD to help understand what therapies and services at Freo Wellbeing would best suit your needs (see Neurodiversity page as above)

  • Social Communication groups, Training Courses and Drop-in Sessions

 Training courses, Social Communication Groups and Drop-in Services.

SALT provides a range of training courses to support your understanding of communication and neurological difficulties and to develop your skills.
