The Beauty Within: How to Find it and Cherish It
Every one of us is beautiful, no matter what we look like or how we feel about ourselves. It’s a pretty big statement, right? Indeed, but it’s true; all of us have beauty within us and it’s important to remember that.
Self-esteem is a vital component of wellbeing as, without a healthy level of self-love, we can actually find it difficult to love others and receive their love in return. In this blog we’ll be discussing what the beauty within is, how to become aware of it and how to make sure you can maintain it in the face of distractions.
What is the beauty within?
Inner beauty is just that. It’s the idea that inside all of us is a level of beauty that can be displayed to everyone and everything around us. Now, this doesn’t mean having perfectly formed organs. Inner beauty is more of a metaphorical concept and commonly concerns the parts of ourselves that we often outwardly project daily.
These can include:
PERSONALITY – Our personalities are what make us unique and can be a great way to show your own brand of beauty. A key part of human social interaction is personality, and this leads to the formation of friendships and romantic partnerships.
ATTITUDE AND OUTLOOK – The way you interpret the world has a large bearing on your opinion of yourself and how you value your own beauty. Someone who sees the positive side in everything and searches for beauty and joy wherever they can find it is more likely to be able to be aware of their own beauty and how to nurture it.
MORALLY GOOD ACTIONS AND DEEDS – This idea is echoed in some religions and belief systems as the concept of ‘Karma’. We should all strive to be the change we want to see in the world; if we do good actions, good will come back to us.
How do I find my inner beauty?
Now that you’ve got a good understanding of some of the forms inner beauty can take, it is important to identify it in yourself. This is so you can begin to work on sustaining and developing it. As we discussed before, everyone has inner beauty, but it can take many forms and is not the same for everyone. The unifying idea, however, is that inner beauty starts first and foremost with the individual in question: you.
We are the only people that we’re with 24/7, so self-love and acceptance is crucial. A key part of self-love is having time for yourself to do what makes you happy. Even though you may be very busy or stressed, set aside an hour or two whenever you can in which you indulge yourself however you like. Listen to your favourite music, practice a hobby, or just have a nice relaxing soak. Whatever it is, make sure it’s exactly how you like it.
Simple steps like this play an important part in helping you to become more content with yourself. This can lead to personal growth and an increase in self-esteem. This increase will in turn allow you to tune in more to your inner beauty and show it to the world.
How do I preserve my inner beauty?
It’s sad to say, but many people find it hard to remain aware of their inner beauty and sometimes even lose track of their unique qualities. This has become more common in the last few years with the creation and rapid expansion of social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. If you scroll through Instagram, you’re bound to come across several accounts posting pictures that can make the average person feel inadequate or that they’re less beautiful. Here are some top tips to be mindful of on social media:
REMEMBER YOUR OWN SELF-WORTH – You are not defined by how others see you, nor are you defined by how you look in relation to anyone else. The way anyone else appears has no bearing on your inner beauty. So, it helps to be mindful of your own worth as you look at others.
BEWARE OF MISLEADING PICTURES - Occasionally, a small minority of Instagram profiles may employ editing tactics to change their appearance. It is unfair to compare yourself to these photos and it’s always a good idea to be aware of the signs of photo manipulation.
ONLY FOLLOW THOSE WHO ENRICH YOU – If you find that some of the accounts or profiles you interact with are taking a negative toll on your self-perception, you should stop engaging with them. Only interact with content that has a positive effect on you and your life.
To summarise, the world would be a much better place if we were all more attuned to our own inner beauty. Try some of these steps today, and remember: you are beautiful.
